In the Spring, third graders from Ms. Cannon's class had the opportunity to work together on a county wide piece of artwork. Students were given a portion of the picture you see above and had to mix colors and, using a Qtip, painted their portion using a pointillism technique (dots). The pieces were then arranged to create this huge mural that is a tribute to Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry Mural which is permanently installed at the DIA. This collaborative artwork, which students grades K-12 from all over Jackson County contributed to, is now hanging at Art Prize, at the Coit Creative Arts Academy in Grand Rapids. I think it's pretty awesome that EJ students had a hand in creating this piece of artwork that thousand of people will see during Art Prize!
Our Kindergartners have been learning about the 3 Primary Colors! Today I introduced them to Piet Mondrian. We looked at Mondrian paintings like this one: CLICK on the picture for an Audio description of this painting. We also learned to make straight lines with our rulers. You can create your own Mondrian style painting HERE!
