This week first graders are learning about the artist, Mary Cassatt who is famous for her paintings of women and children. We talked about portraits and our families. We looked at some of Mary Cassatt's paintings in a book. Our first graders were very interested in some of the details of some of the paintings that portrayed life a little different from theirs...like the family riding in a carriage pulled by horses. Our first grade artists are drawing a portrait of their families. We talked about how to make the people different sizes based on how old their family members might be. We also discussed what makes each one of us unique & different from the other people in our family and how we can show those differences in our drawings. We have some beginnings of some wonderful masterpieces! I can't wait to see them once they are colored!
